General Housing Program

1. Homelessness Prevention

WRO provides eviction preventiongrants to renters, and relocation help for the homeless based on completing application and providing documents. If we are unable to assist then a referral can be made for assistance from another agency. Client can only be assisted with one month’s payment. Clients MUST first apply at their local Department of social services office locations listed on last page of application.

At this time WRO has funding for individuals with rental arrears, security deposit or first month’s rent for all cities.

2. Utility Shut-off Prevention

*PLEASE NOTE:  AT THIS TIME WRO IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR CON EDISON ASSISTANCE.

WRO provides Con Edison assistance to clients with a shut-off notice. The assistance covers up to one month’s service upon completing an application and providing documents. Con Edison bill has to be in the applicant’s name. Client must first apply at the Department of Social Services for assistance.

3. Rental Opportunities

WRO provides information on available rentals and vacancy listings through-out Westchester, and provides information about applying for Section 8 and subsidized rental housing.

4. Mortgage Default Counseling

WRO intervenes on behalf of homeowners in danger of mortgage foreclosure and may help financially with one month’s mortgage arrears.

5. Counseling on landlord-tenant problems

WRO can assist in resolving landlord-tenant issues and identify legal and other resources that may be helpful.
