BROWSER FAQ

INTERNET EXPLORER
Any version of IE is supported, but IE version 5 and up are preferred. You will need either Windows Media Player (version 7 preferred) or Real Networks Real Player (version 8 Basic or later).

NETSCAPE
If you are using Netscape 4x (that is 4.0, 4.1, 4.2,...) , the webcast videos can only be seen with a Real Player plugin, or you can select the TEXT only version and view the slides without the videos.

If you are using Netscape 6x, you need either the Real Player plugin or the Windows Media Player version 7 plugin. Earlier versions of Windows Media Player will not detect Netscape 6 when they are installed, and so are not compatible. Also, if you install Netscape 6x after you have installed the Windows Media Player, you will need to re-install the Media Player so that it can detect Netscape and install the required plugin.

BEWARE: Installing the Windows Media Player plugin for Netscape Navigator can be tricky. When the plugin is properly installed the Npdsplay.dll and Npds.zip files will be copied into your Netscape\Communicator\Program\Plugins directory. (By default the Netscape directory is installed in your C:\Program Files directory.) If you do not find the Npdsplay.dll and Npds.zip files in the Netscape Plugins directory try looking for them in the C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player directory, and copy them to the Netscape Plugins directory.

To check to see if the Windows Media plugin has been recognized by Netscape Navigator select
Help >About Plugins from the Netscape menu, and look for "Windows Media Player plugin Dynamic Link Library" in the plugins table.

KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH NETSCAPE: At the end of each video, you will need to click on the next Agenda topic to start the next video. This is true whether you are viewing Real Player videos or Windows Media Player videos. In the text only version, the last slide of each speaker's presentation says "Click to Advance". Clicking on this text will advance to the next speaker's slides but will not change the speaker's image in the center of the screen. If you instead  click on the next topic in the Program Agenda, the next set of slides will appear, and the speaker's image will be correctly updated.

Under Internet Explorer, the videos and slides automatically advance to the next speaker and topic.

SLIDE SHOWS

If you are viewing the slides by using the TEXT only option, the slides can be manually advanced using the standard PowerPoint controls. You will see a table of contents to the left of the slides with the slide titles. Click on each title to go to that slide. You will also see Back and Forward arrows next to the slide number at the bottom of the slide frame. You may click on these to advance or go to a previous slide.  If you are using an Internet Explorer browser, you will see these to the right of these arrows the text "Slide Show."  If you click on "Slide Show", the slides will fill your screen, and you advance the slide by clicking your mouse anywhere on the screen. Or press ESC to return to the original screen size. At the end of each topic, the screen will be black. Just click to end the show. The display will return to the original screen size with the smaller slide frame. Slide shows can be a useful way to share the slides with a group for discussion, but you must be using the Internet Explorer browser.
